Maura Walsh, from the village of Lixnaw in Kerry, is best known for her concertina playing, (All-Ireland Senior Concertina Title). She is also a fluent player on fiddle, button accordeon and tin whistle. A beautiful evening of fine Irish traditional music.
Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann was founded by musicians in 1951 to promote Irish traditional music and the first Fleadh Cheoil was organised in Mullingar, County Weatmeath. Within a few years, this had become a National Festival attended by thousands of traditional musicians, singers and dancers from all over Ireland and soon also from overseas.
Branches of Comhaltas have formed in every county in Ireland and also abroad, organising classes, concerts, and sessions in local communities. Comhaltas is now a world-wide organisation, with active branches in the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan and elsewhere. In fact, there are hundreds of branches in 15 countries on 4 continents and very vibrant branches in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Canberra and more recently in Adelaide.
